Listen buddy, don’t listen to anyone.
You are right when you think you can or cannot do.
I am 33 years old, 12 years experienced person in IT. I earn 56 lac total pre-tax per year including stocks and bonus. My managers and their managers obviously earn a lot more than me.
Do I have a master degree ? No. I have B.tech degree in computer science.
Am I from IIT or some prestigious institute ? No, I’m not even from tier 2 college, a university which was regarded as value less one upon a time, and decommissioned there after.
Did I top my college at least ?
I managed to pass my 3rd semester because of practical marks, I got 39 in theory.
Did I do my schooling from DPS/KV/Some prime schools ? No, I studied in regional language, scoring 88% in 10th and 85% in 12th.
Did I changed my companies too often to take salary hikes ? Nope, working at the 3rd company.
Am I lucky ? Yes, definitely. I was ready, and right place at the right time. I am very grateful for this.
But Above all, I work like a horse. I was ready when the opportunities knocked.
While others were busy having fun in college, I was busy learning english as a language. I was passionate about programming.
When others were busy having fun in free time on job, I was producing 2 people worth of work.
When others were settling down as leaders, I was busy learning leadership and management.
I never chased salary, but chased how well I can do my job. How important I can be in my business unit.
One advise: Leave the salary to luck; put your heart in the work that you do, be it a job or business or just managing household or as small as helping someone cross the road.
